Mentioning your iPhone and Apple Watch models, and which version of Hatchi you're running, usually gets to an answer in one round trip.
In the app, Settings → Help & contact opens this page.
Getting started
How do I hatch my egg?
Walk. The egg needs 150 steps from the moment it appears — about two minutes. Your iPhone counts them live; on an Apple Watch used without an iPhone, the Watch counts them itself. You can watch the egg crack as you go. There's no need to keep the app open: steps taken with the app closed still count, and the egg waits for you to come back and watch it hatch.
Do I need an Apple Watch?
No. Hatchi works on iPhone alone. An Apple Watch gets you more: sleep tracking, workout detection, mindful minutes, time in daylight and the Watch complication all depend on data your Watch records.
Do I need an iPhone?
No. The Apple Watch app runs on its own: it hatches its own egg, reads your health data on the Watch, shows your pet, its traits, levels, trophies and cosmetics, and can buy or restore Hatchi+ by itself. Installing the iPhone app later adds the fuller day-by-day history screens, and the two sync when both are around.
Why isn't my health data showing up?
Almost always a permission that was skipped or turned off. Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Hatchi and check that the categories you care about are on. Hatchi only ever reads, so switching a category on is safe.
Two other things worth knowing:
- Sleep and daylight data are written by your Apple Watch after the fact, so a night or a walk can take a little while to appear.
- If you granted access but nothing changed, force-quit Hatchi and reopen it — permissions are picked up when the app starts.
My steps aren't counting while the egg is hatching
Hatching uses motion data rather than Apple Health. Check Settings → Privacy & Security → Motion & Fitness and make sure both the system toggle and Hatchi are enabled.
Your pet
Why does my Hatchi look tired or sick?
Because you probably are. Hatchi's states mirror your data: short sleep makes it tired, and a sustained stretch of poor days makes it sick. Neither is permanent, and you don't have to wait for the next night: moving a little or taking a calm moment during the day clears the bad night for the rest of that day. Being sick takes two days in a row of poor sleep and low activity, and it clears the same way.
How do levels and XP work?
You earn XP for meeting your daily goals across activity, sleep, daylight and mindfulness. There's a daily cap, so the way up is consistency rather than a single heroic day. Levels unlock cosmetics.
How do trophies and streaks work?
Trophies come in four groups of three. Outside Secrets, every trophy is a ladder with a bronze, a silver and a gold step, and each step awards XP the first time you reach it. Secrets have no steps: you either find them or you don't. Streaks count consecutive qualifying days — a day that hasn't qualified yet doesn't break anything, so a streak only ends when a full day passes without qualifying.
Streaks and days in a row are two different counters. A streak follows one goal — sleeping well, closing your rings, meditating — and counts the days in a row you reached it; that is what the trophies reward. Days in a row ask for no performance at all: every day you open Hatchi counts, and the run adds 5% XP a day, up to 50%.
Why are my Hatchi's colours dull?
It's neither a display fault nor a punishment. Hatchi's colours fade on days it has seen little daylight, and they come back with the sun.
Can I choose what Hatchi sends me?
Yes. Settings let you pick which kinds of notification you get, and only offer the ones that match the traits you track. When the Apple Watch app is installed it does the talking rather than the iPhone, so you aren't told twice. Nothing arrives during the night: celebrations are queued and come out in the morning.
My iPhone and my Watch disagree
The two apps sync directly with each other, which needs both to be reachable. Open Hatchi on both devices, with the Watch on your wrist and near the iPhone, and give it a few seconds. Keeping both apps updated to the same version avoids most mismatches.
Hatchi+
What do I get for free?
The whole pet, for the day you're in. All four traits — activity, sleep, daylight and mindfulness — every trophy, levels and XP, the Apple Watch app, the iPhone widget and the Watch complication. Today's Hatchi is complete without paying anything; looking back at the days before it is what Hatchi+ adds.
What does Hatchi+ add?
Looking back, first of all — everything Hatchi saw on a day, once that day is done, where the free app shows only the day in progress. Then Hatchi's Week: your week told as your pet lived it — a title in its voice, one pose per day, what it was best at, your averages against the week before, and a card to keep for every week you've had together. A compact version is on the Apple Watch too. And the whole collection: every hat, every background and every effect, a growing wardrobe you unlock as you level up rather than the handful the free track hands you.
On Apple Watch, what Hatchi+ opens is the nights behind last night on the sleep card, the compact Hatchi's Week, and the same wardrobe. The day-by-day history of the other traits is an iPhone screen.
How do I restore a purchase?
Open the Hatchi+ screen and tap Restore Purchases, signed in with the same Apple Account you bought it with. Restoring on iPhone also restores on your paired Apple Watch, and the Apple Watch app has its own Restore Purchases button — you don't need an iPhone to buy Hatchi+, or to get it back.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are handled by Apple, not by Hatchi. Go to Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → Hatchi and cancel there. You keep Hatchi+ until the end of the period you've paid for, and the free part of the app is unaffected.
From the app, Settings → Manage subscription opens the right page directly.
If you're on a free trial, cancelling at least 24 hours before it ends avoids being charged.
I paid but Hatchi+ isn't active
Try Restore Purchases on the Hatchi+ screen first, and check you're signed in with the Apple Account that made the purchase. If it still doesn't unlock, email [email protected] — including your App Store receipt makes it much faster to sort out.
Privacy and your data
Where does my health data go?
Nowhere. Hatchi reads it on your device and keeps it there. There's no account, no server and no third-party code in the app — it contains no networking code at all. The privacy policy spells this out in full.
How do I delete my data?
Delete the app. Everything Hatchi stored goes with it. Nothing was ever sent anywhere, so there's no other copy to erase.
Can I stop Hatchi reading one category?
Yes — turn it off in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Hatchi. The rest of the app carries on with what's left; the trait that depended on it simply stops updating.
